October 31, 2003College of Charleston lands
talented forward South Kent's Nelson Headed South By Dave Telep
Baltimore
native Tavon Nelson is headed to Southern Conference. The South Kent School prospect
made his decision on Thursday evening. Tavon Nelson, a 6-7 small forward
from South Kent (CT) School, committed to the College of Charleston on Thursday
night. Nelson, an athletic small forward, could wind up having a sizeable
impact for the Cougars. "I think he can have a huge impact,"
Raphael Chillious, South Kent's head coach, said. "He's a guy who brings
his lunch pail everyday. A lot of times on the stat sheet you look at the points
and not see it but you look at the rebounds and the assists and he's getting it
done. He can play a couple of different positions." The Cougars had
been recruiting him hard since the beginning and St. Bonaventure (no offer) made
a little run at him in the end, but Charleston had done a nice job on him start
to finish. "He's gotten bigger and stronger. I think he's gotten better
because he's had an opportunity to play where he's going to play at the next level
on the perimeter." Nelson participated in AAU basketball with Anthony
Lewis' Baltimore Cecil Kirk program.

& 2004 SAT/ACT test dates
October 5, 2003Archbishop
Spalding Big Fella will be staying in MarylandJason Loughry, the 6'11
center at Spalding, has decided to accept a full athletic scholarship to Mt. St.
Mary's. Jason could be a factor in Spaldings run to become Catholic League Champions
again. Everyone in the conference understands that they have to contain Spaldings
Rudy Gay and there dynamic point guard Jesse Brooks. Jason can be the x-factor
if he blocks shots and rebounds well. If he can contribute a few points in the
paint, he can alleviate the pressure for Rudy Gay. Mt. St. Mary's will be getting
one of the tallest players in the state of Maryland. Congratulations Jason!!
September
29, 2003Dorsey Commits to Memphis After
his visit this past weekend with the University of Memphis, Joey has closed his
recruiting by making a decision to attend Memphis. Coach Calipari gets another
tough Baltimore prospect and this one will do just as well as the first. While
at UMASS Calipari came to Baltimore and recruited Donta Bright (Dunbar). During
the four years Donta was at UMASS all Calipari did was win games. Dorsey is a
tough inside player that plays like a man and who is working very hard and improving
his outside game. Good luck "Joe Joe"!!!!
Drummond Commits
to Wagner After
his visit this past weekend with Wagner, Justin has closed his recruiting by making
a decision to join Jamal Smith (Towson Catholic) at Wagner University. Assistant
Coach, Jim Meil has always recruited the Baltimore area and this year he has two
prime guards that give Wagner a great guard tandom. Jamal is a 6'4 2G and Justin
is a 6'5 guard that has the ability to play the wing and the point duties. Justin
is a great rebounder and defender and he is like a coach on the floor beacause
he plays with a calm demeanor and rarely makes mistakes. Justin has played with
the Select program for 4 years and we watched him grow and become an aggressive,
smart player. This is great news and Congratulations Justin!!!!
September
24, 2003Big Brandon is figuring out whether it will be Football or Basketball Brandon
Albert a Senior at Glen Burnie High, is currently a high sought after guard that
can play offensive and defensive line. At 6'7 330 pounds, he is getting calls
from Major D-1 football programs. After spening the summer with the Select program,
Brandon is also weighing his Basketball options. Although not getting recruited
as high in Basketball, the Select coaches are getting calls from Marshall, Niagara,
Northeastern and Manhattan inquiring about his basketball opportunities. One good
thing that Brandon has going for him on the hardwood is that he and his running
mate, All Metro Guard Mitch Guest will be attempting to take Glen Burnie back
to the State finals this year. So talking with Brandon, it does not look like
a decision will be coming early (November), therefore we will be keeping you up
to date on his recruiting.
September 23, 2003Thomas
