Former Select player gets drafted 15th in the 2008 NFL draft
Branden Albert, former Glen Burnie HS standout football and basketball star, got drafted 15th by the Kansas City Chiefs in today's draft. As we reported earlier, Branden had a great career at University of Virginia and decided to leave after his junior year. He went to the NFL combines and his stock continued to skyrocket from there. The former select basketball standout used the summertimes with us for a time to keep working on his stamina and footwork. He wanted to play basketball to keep his body ready for the football season. He was an exceptional basketball player for select. His last summer with Select he played in a few big games with future NBA stars Dwight Howard and Josh Smith. Congratulations Big B!!!

Select Alumni represented Baltimore on the National Scene this past weekend
Darnell Harris, Ricky Harris and Joey Dorsey represented Baltimore well this past weekend during the last weekend of 2008 March Madness.
Starting with Darnell Harris, 4 year started at LaSalle University, who is on schedule to receive his degree this spring, went to San Antonio to participate in the NCAA Final Four weekend's 3 point contest. Harris beat out tough competition eventually winning the competition. Darnell always had a sweet shot and now everyone knows. Congratulations Darnell!!!
Now we will move on to Ricky Harris who was a catalyst in the UMASS team making it to the NIT Finals this weekend vs. Ohio State. Ricky has been a significant contributor to the success UMASS this year and he did not fail the team during this finals showdown. Ricky scored 29 point during the eventual loss to Ohio State team. Ricky showed everyone that he is a force to recon with next year. Congratulations Ricky!!!
Last but not least, Joey Dorsey and the Memphis Tigers. Joey has been a 4 year starter for Memphis and helped lead his team to the NCAA Finals this year. Joey had played the role of enforcer al year long and in the final four game vs. UCLA, he continued that role by pulling down 15 rebounds and shutting down UCLA's All American Kevin Love. In the finals, Joey had to deal with the trio of big men that Kansas had and it was a tough outing, eventually fouling out with a little over two minutes left in the game. The Memphis Tiger eventually lost in overtime after a record 38-2 season. Congratulations Joey!!!
