Select Teams with impressive Championships

Both the 13U Team and the 14U team have won recent Championships. The 13U age group led by Coach Gibson, recently won the championship at the Metro Sixers Winter League, compiling a record of 10-1 on there way to the Championship. They also went into one of the early and important weekend tournaments, The Maryland Invitational, and brought home the Championship. The team went into the weekend with high hopes of winning and they did, going 6-0 on there way to there second Championship in as many weeks. Congratulations to Coach Ken and the Select 13U players!!!

The 14U team led by Coach Locke recently won the Championship of the Metro Sixer Fall League compiling a record of 12-0. They also played in the Metro Sixer Winter League where the team went 12-0 again while winning another Championship. They played tought throughout both leagues and look forward to the sping/summer season. Congratulations to Coach Locke and the 14U players!!!

James "Big June" Cameron will join top program

Photo: James "Big June" CarmonBig June will be attending Lackawana Junior College in PA and then attend University of Maryland upon completion of JUCO. Big June was a standout defensive lineman for the City College Knights earning All-Metro Honors during his time at City. He us also an important piece of the puzzle of the successful Knights basketball team, currently in the top ten within Baltimore. Big June will be joining the Select basketball team one final summer before he goes to college. Congratulations Big June!!!

Two Select stanouts, Erin Henderson (Univ. of Maryland) and Brandon Albert (Univ. of Virginia) have put there names in the NFL Draft

Photo: Erin Henderson-2001 8th GraderErin Henderson, former Aberdeen dual sport player, has proven to be one of the best linebackers in the country. For the past two years he has led the Maryland Terrapin defense as Captain and as the leader in tackles. He was a key piece of a great summer with the Select team throughout his three summers with us. He is considered a high second round draft pick.

 

 

 

 

Photo: Brandon AlbertBrandon Albert, former Glen Burnie dual sport player, has prven to be one of the best offensive lineman in the country. For the past three years (starting lineup as a freshman), he has led the Cavalier offensive lineman team. He has been a consistant piece of the offensive line which has led the team to two consecutive bowl games. He was the man in the middle for the select team for two summers. He is also considered to be a first round or high second round draft pick.

Congratulations to Erin and Brandon!!!

Former Select standout has chosen the Pittsburgh Panthers to finish his final two years of college

Photo: Jermaine DixonAfter speaking with Phil Dixon this afternoon (Jermaine's older Brother), he notified the Select staff that Jermaine has decided that he will sign with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Big East. Jermaine is currently one of the top receruits coming out of Junior College (Tallahassee CC). He has been recruited by schools such as UNLV, Pittsburgh, Maryland, George Mason and others. He decided on Pittsburgh because he thinks it was the best fit for him. Congratulations Jermaine!!!

Strong lifts Douglas in a pair of Big wins last week

Photo: Omar StrongThe senior has been the catalyst for the Ducks the past two seasons and was again last week in a pair of wins over ranked teams that moved the team back into The Sun's Top 15 at No. 9. Strong, an All-Metro guard last season when he averaged 19.8 points, had 16 points and eight assists in a 73-49 victory over then-No. 5 Northwestern on Jan. 22. The 5-foot-9 guard followed it with a game-high 27 points, six assists and five rebounds in a 77-65 victory over No.12 Digital Harbor on Friday. Strong had two three-point baskets and was 9-for-10 from the foul line in the final 58 seconds to secure the win. He was 13-for-14 overall on free throws for the 11-4 Ducks.

Baltimore Select and the Baltimore Starz (girls) merge to form Baltimore Select Starz Girls Basketball

The two organizations sat down and worked it out and now will be called the Baltimore Select Starz. The girls organization will begin with the 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U and 15U age groups.

Tryouts for 11U, 12U and 13U will begin on February 9th at Bryn Mawr @ 11:00am - 1:00p. For more information log onto www.mdstarz.com
