Athletes of the Week

Will Thomas, Mount St. Joseph, basketball

The reigning Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year was a force at both ends of the court in leading the top-ranked Gaels to a 3-0 week, which extended their winning streak to 12 games.

A 6-foot-8, 195-pound senior forward who is bound for George Mason, Thomas had 12 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as Mount St. Joseph thwarted Goretti, 67-55, on Jan. 13.

In the Gaels' much-anticipated game against Archbishop Spalding on Friday night -- a 63-58 double-overtime victory -- Thomas had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks before ending the week with a 17-point, 12-rebound and three-block effort as Mount St. Joseph took out Towson Catholic, 56-47, on Sunday.

Thomas also had standout defensive games against Spalding star Rudy Gay and Towson Catholic leading scorer Jamal Smith.

Double Doubles from the Big Fella!!!

Photo: Brandon AlbertBig B is making it hard for college basketball coaches to ignore him even though he is being recruited as a football player. As of January 19th, through 8 games he is averaging 11.3 ppg and he is the leading rebounder in the area at 14.3 rpg. This double double action along with his 6'7 300 pd + weight makes him a force in the paint. Look for more of Brandon in upcoming games with his high school (Glen Burnie, currently ranked 7th locally) along with his all metro running mate Mitch Guest (leading the area in scoring at 23.1 ppg)
